This mission proves much more annoying than we anticipated.  The premise is easy enough, Find satellite dishes, get to them, input code, profit.  However, it isn’t quite that simple.  I feel that this deserves to be an Investigation mission because, well… aside from missing a few cut-scenes, that’s what it basically is.

Tier 1: Find and Hack the First Dish

Our first challenge comes in locating and getting up to each individual satellite dish.  To get to the first one, look at my mini-map and go to this location.  You should see an open door to the building along this pathway.  Go through it and upstairs.

When you get to the top of the building, continue up the stairs to the roof.

From the roof, jump over the following mini-bridge between buildings to get to the rooftop that has the actual satellite Dish.

When you finally reach the dish, you need to “hack” it.  If you don’t read your quest log when you get quests, this will stump you, and is probably the reason you did a google search and found us, or already had us bookmarked and came over to see if we solved it for you, right right??  Either way, open up your quest log and take a look at what it says.  The first line under Tier 1 in the log states “The signal was routed through a satellite at azimuth 12.4 and elevation 31.7”  These are the coordinates values you need to input into this, and every other satellite you find during this mission.

12.4 31.7

When you input the code, you will get what looks like garbage returned to you.  This is the point I feel makes this quest deserve to be an Investigation quest.  Because you’re going to have to decipher this data.

If you want to decipher it yourself, the code is typed out for you below the image.  However, if you want the solution/how to decipher the code, that will be covered under the Tier 2 section of this post.

Tier 1: Find and Hack the Second Dish

Same story for the Second Dish, the first challenge arrives in getting up to it.  To start, begin here.  Climb these ghetto stairs, make a left and jump onto the fabric ceiling.

Next get onto the building and head up the stairs to the roof.

I hope you know how to jump from building to building Assasins Creed Style, or else you’ll fall and have to start over again (cough) Unfair (cough).  The satellite dish is on the other side of the gap in the far corner.

Just like step 1, input 12.4 31.7 to get the code from this satellite.

If you want to decipher it yourself, the code is typed out for you below the image.  However, if you want the solution/how to decipher the code, that will be covered under the Tier 2 section of this post.

Tier 1: Find and Hack the Third Dish

The entrance to this one is around the back of the building.  Unfair is at the starting point.  Hop on up and go up the left to get to the roof of the building.

When on the roof, you’re at your destination.  The satellite is in the corner.

Just like step 1, input 12.4 31.7 to get the code from this satellite.

If you want to decipher it yourself, the code is typed out for you below the image.  However, if you want the solution/how to decipher the code, that will be covered under the Tier 2 section of this post.

Tier 1: Find and Hack the Fourth Dish

Climb the wall directly ahead of me, where Unfair has decided to pose, and jump up onto the building.

Jump onto the stairs on the side of the next building and climb up to the roof.  The satellite dish is in the corner on the Right hand side of the screenshot.

Just like step 1, input 12.4 31.7 to get the code from this satellite.

If you want to decipher it yourself, the code is typed out for you below the image.  However, if you want the solution/how to decipher the code, that will be covered under the Tier 2 section of this post.

Tier 2: Find the Source of the Transmission

Run the segments of code through a translator and you will get a riddle as your output.  Each of the four segments from Tier 1 have different parts that are useful, but all four together will display one message.

MAJOR HINT from Azaz

(1) determine the numerical or alpha-numeric format for each piece and convert it from that format into computer text. When converted properly, each piece will yield text that includes letters and punctuation marks, and a bunch of “wild card” characters: !@#$%^&*()_+=
(2) “superimpose” each piece, replacing any wild card character with the letter revealed in one of the other pieces

and here is a translator – http://home.paulschou.net/tools/xlate/

It is as follows.

Scholars, can you hear me? Chased for six days and seven nights. Across the pits of fire. Fourty-four beasts crave what I carry, but I cling to it in the house of death! Heed my words!

Pits of fire on the map are to the North, so the direction we want to head is North.  The end goal is a cave north of the fields of fire, just past the eastern scar.  The coordinates are roughly 505, 1010.

I have bolded the six, seven, and fourty-four for a reason.  These will be used as a code to open a box at the end of the mission.  6744

When you arrive at the above coordinates, you should be inside a tomb.

Tier 2: Open the Box

In the tomb, head to the pillar shown below. Next to it will be a Strange Box and you need a code in order to open it. This is where the numbers from the passage come into play. Input 6744 into the box in order to open it, and finish the mission.

These guides are great! Perfect detail, and even going as far as explaining how you got your answers. I’ve used plenty of them already, and I can’t wait for more!

  2. Thanks for this. This quest is the only one I’ve really had trouble with. It should be an investigation mission for sure, but in addition, I have no idea what kind of ‘translators’ you would even use for this.

  3. Wilowah says:

Yeah, when I put this stuff into a binary translator, I just get gibberish. How on earth did you guys translate it?

  4. I had a bunch of glitches in it no matter which translators I used (including the one you recommend), but it was still possible to make out the combined message. The big problem I had was that I recognized all four formats instantly (I’m a programmer), but when I decoded each to what looked like gibberish, I thought, “Well, so much for the easy idea …” It took me a LONG time to realize I needed to splice all four together.

Good job on this walkthrough! There’ll be a lot of frustrated people coming to you for this one.

Starting location, behind Roberto the Council of Venice vendor. Despite being a “side mission”, the mission seems to disappear completely once completed, much like an investigative mission. Popped back to do it again after the normal cooldown period and it just wasnt there anymore.

  6. Dulcinea says:

It looks like this is giving experience as a Investigation mission as of today, because my end XP (didn’t pay attention to the tier XP) was 4 sequins and over 300k XP.

  7. BunE22 says:

There’s an easier way to get to #2 (next to the billboard on the roof). In your screenshot, on the lower right, there is an open doorway to a different building. Go up to the roof of that building and take a running leap off the corner onto the roof of #2.

This quest is really ridiculous for the level and rewards. But that’s usual for Funcom’s investigation missions, even if they;re not labeled as such.
